Striking the right note: composer takes up key role

One of Australia’s foremost contemporary classical composers, Professor Andrew Schultz, will take up an appointment at UNSW next year as Head of the School of English, Media and Performing Arts.

He recently completed his term as Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong.

Andrew’s music covers a broad range of chamber, orchestral, operatic and vocal works and has been performed, recorded and broadcast extensively. He has written three operas – Black River, Going Into Shadows and The Children’s Bach.

“We are delighted to welcome Professor Schultz to our Faculty,” said Professor James Donald, Dean of Arts and Social Sciences. “Apart from his international reputation in music, Andrew has an impressive record of academic and scholarly leadership. He will significantly enhance our strength in the creative and performing arts.”

Andrew has published on topics relating to new music and analysis, and is editor of the Biographical Directory of Australian Composers.
