UNSW welcomes new Deputy Chancellor

The UNSW Council has elected Ms Jillian Segal as the University’s new Deputy Chancellor, commencing 1 January 2010.

Jillian takes over from Ms Gabrielle Upton who has been in the role since 2006.

Appointed to Council in 2006, Jillian is a professional company director, lawyer and consultant.

She is currently a director of the Australian Stock Exchange and the National Australia Bank, a member of the Australia Council's Major Performing Arts Board, a member of the Council for Multicultural Australia and President of the Administrative Review Council.

Jillian was previously Commissioner and Deputy Chair of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

She was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2005 for services to business law, particularly in the areas of financial services reform and market regulation.

Jillian is an arts/law graduate from UNSW, winning the University Medal for law, and has an LLM from Harvard.
