| Indigenous Traineeship Program In line with the 2007-2010 Indigenous Employment Strategy, UNSW is committed to increasing the number of Indigenous staff. As part of this strategy, Nura Gili runs the Indigenous Traineeship Program. The program commenced last year with the employment of four trainees. In 2009 Nura Gili is offering placement to a minimum of six Indigenous trainees. The 12 month traineeship is at no cost to the area of employment, however, during the second year, each unit is expected to contribute 50 per cent of wages. After this time, all employment costs are to be covered by the individual areas. Any area, faculty, or school within UNSW can apply to take on a trainee, but must ensure they can provide the following:
The 12 month traineeship consists of four days on- the- job training and one day structured training, working towards a Certificate III, which is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation, such as TAFE. Throughout the year, trainees will also be involved in a six- day rural Indigenous community project, which involves travelling to Nanima Aboriginal Reserve near Wellington NSW and working for five days. If you are interested in employing a trainee next year, please send a brief Expression of Interest (detailing your commitment to the above conditions) addressed to Associate Professor Sue Green, Nura Gili Indigenous Programs, 26 Botany St or email s.green@unsw.edu.au. |
