Ms Gabrielle Upton has been elected by the UNSW Council as the University’s new Deputy Chancellor. The position will be held for a two-year period commencing 1 January 2006. Ms Upton will take over the position from Mr John Pascoe AO, whose term of office will be completed on 31 December 2005. Ms Upton, a graduate of UNSW, has a background as a lawyer and banker and is currently Legal Counsel at the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Ms Upton serves as a member of a number of committees, both external and internal.

Professor John Piggott has been appointed Acting Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics. Professor Piggott, who is also the Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty and the Director of the Centre for Pensions and Superannuation, assumes the role following Greg Whittred’s appointment as President of UNSW Asia. Professor Piggott will be Acting Dean until May next year.

Professor Richard Henry, Senior Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, has been appointed as a member of the South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Area Health Advisory Council. |

Professor Jeremy Davis, one of AGSM's most distinguished academics, is retiring at the end of the year. He was AGSM Dean from 1980 to 1989, a member of the UNSW Academic Board for a decade and served as its President for two terms. He was also a member of the UNSW Council for eight years. "Professor Davis has played a leadership role and made outstanding contributions to both AGSM and UNSW during the last 25 years," said Professor Rob McLean, Dean of AGSM. |
