Achievements Professor Gavin Kitching Professor Gavin Kitching, Head of the School of Politics and International Relations, has been elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA). Fellows of ASSA are nominated by their peers for having produced outstanding and internationally renowned research and writing in the field of social science. “I’m honoured to be invited to join the Academy,” said Professor Kitching. “It’s an opportunity to help support quality research in social science in Australia.” Fellows also have the opportunity to join various committees of the Academy to enhance its work in Australia and overseas. “I hope to join the International Program Committee which engages in collaborative research with the British Academy of Science and the US Academy of Social Science,” said Professor Kitching. ”I’m keen to explore how the Academy might be able to support social science research in developing countries where facilities are lacking.” Professor Kitching’s research focuses largely on the politics of development in poor countries. He is currently researching US and UK Technical Assistance to Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania and Kenya from 1965 to 2000 and the problem of expertise loss in African countries. He is also interested in the later philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein and its methodological implications for research in social science. |
