Vale Marian Elizabeth Bate
1947 – 2006

Marian Bate joined UNSW as the Physical Sciences Librarian in 1977, and worked in a number of senior and executive positions in the Library before her appointment as Principal Librarian in 1995. She became University Librarian in 2000 and she retired in 2001.

Marian’s main focus was always empowerment of the individual, whether they were library users or library staff, and she made many outstanding contributions to the development of library services at the local, national and international level.

Marian passed away on Sunday 21 May.
